Great Advice and Information Regarding Resources!

Providing Stock+Resources - A Beginners Guide Pt01The following five part guide is a collection of tips and tricks for stockers and those who would like to become stockers but don't know where to start - based on my personal experence. While reading, keep in mind that most of what is outlined below are guidelines and not a set of rules you never ever cross - there are exception to everything but the very first rule (I would say copyright is not debatable, after all, you expect others to respect yours, too). Also, this has gotten very long and still, I feel I forgot stuff... So if you have any additions you'd like to see in here, feel free to comment!
>> What you will find in this guide:
Part 01: Introduction & Note on Copyright [you are reading it]
Part 02: What should I put online? incl. Subject Choice | Dealing with Abuse | Technical Basics for Stock Images | Lighting setup | Tips and tricks on getting the most out of your camera |
Providing Stock+Resources - A Beginners Guide Pt02This is Part 2 of Providing Stock+Resources - A Beginners Guide. It is aimed at resource providers new and old - I'm trying to give some tips and pointers based on my experience both as a stocker and a photomanipulator. If you have anything to add (maybe you have an example from your own gallery I could insert - pretty please?), feel free to comment, I still feel like I forgot soooo much ^^; Any other comments are of course welcome as well. I hope this helps at least some

Arts and Crafts have an amazing history. Artisan Crafts, or Artisanal Handcrafts created by hand with or without the use of tools, became popular in the later 19th century. Originally, to craft anything from metal works, leather items, tatting to pottery, was controlled by Guilds, which were Master Artisans

:reading: My Own Story: I love Arts and Crafts! I've created crafts since I was growing up in the fifties and sixties. Recycling when I was young was an absolute necessity, since it wasn't easy or affordable to "buy new"; ergo, items were collected and created into new items to use in a variety of ways. Scraps of material were sewn together for pillows, throws or quilts, doll clothes or twisted together to create rugs; Popsicle sticks were saved to glue together to create boxes, ornaments or marked with the names of plants for the garden; buttons were reused or had a second life as doll eyes, saved in bags to play a sorting game or glued to construction paper to create a framable picture; jelly jars became drinking cups or vases for wild flowers; brown grocery bags were used to cover school books, create a mask for Halloween or taken back to the grocery store to be used again; etc. and so forth. My mother was ahead of her time and took glass and tin cans to a nearby town every third Thursday of the month between 1 and 4 PM. She recycled before most people never even heard of recycling! My mother sewed and quilted, made candles from wax, soap from lard, saved bacon grease to cook with, took wire hangers back to the dry cleaners, but only those she didn't use to create Christmas Wreaths, picture hangers or to put two hangers together to wrap yarn around to make a wonderful hanger for fancy dresses. Arts and Crafts of all types were a such a huge part of my life that naturally I kept up with them as an adult.

I have a large extended family and Arts and Crafts are popular among most of them! There are several professional artists, as well as hobbyists. The family is exposed to Arts and Crafts practically from birth!

I have a brother, Sherm Byers of Newark, Ohio, who sculpts full-size dinosaurs, volcanoes and prehistoric animals and men, as well as creatures of all sorts; he then makes casts of them to create replicas for sale to museums, as well as to businesses and for private displays. He had a Jurassic Journey tour that traveled around North America, where many of dinosaurs and other castings were displayed. He created an entire "horror house" one Halloween where many people were able to tour the inside as if going from room to room in a "real" Haunted House.

In December of 1989 he discovered a Mastodon on his land where he was excavating to extend his golf course to 18 holes. He had been told by my eldest brother that a bog where he wanted to dig was actually a prehistoric bog. His sole interest during the dig was being able to reuse the materials taken from the bog when surprise of surprises he found a Mastodon that was around 96% complete and still had the stomach intact with 8 living bacterias still residing inside. The stomach was sent off to universities for study then he learned the art of casting in order to create a cast of the Mastodon to create replicas. Even though his first love is golf, he quickly took to his artistic side.

I have a copy of a video that was made during the dig, which would be nice to post on YouTube one day. I was able to edit it to a DVD, so it isn't as long as the original feed.

Here are just some of items he has worked on over the years.
